Vapor Smoking: Dispelling 3 Common Myths

Between celebrities like Johnny Depp and TV shows like “The Doctors,” it’s hard to find anyone these days who hasn’t at least heard of vapor smoking. Having heard of it and actually getting solid facts about it are two entirely different things, however.

Opponents of vaping have plenty of things to say. Some are true, like the fact that nicotine is still an addictive substance no matter how you consume it. Other opposition, though, is less accurate, and prompted by fear of the unknown instead of solid facts about electronic smoking devices.

  1. E-smoking companies are vultures

This myth goes something like this:

“Electronic cigarette companies are trying to get everyone everywhere addicted to nicotine. They use flavors so they can attract kids and nonsmokers and get them hooked.”

This myth is easy enough to dispel, though. Are you an adult? Do you smoke? Do you like flavors? Chances are if you researching vapor smoking you answered all three of these questions, “yes.”

Electronic cigarette flavors aren’t there to entice those who have successfully avoided nicotine products. They are there to help those who want to make the switch from smoke to vapor do so successfully.

  1. Nicotine causes cancer

This myth is the fault of years of research regarding the effects of cigarettes that failed to differentiate between tobacco and nicotine. The studies citing smoking and secondhand smoke as cancer-causing are, in fact, referring to tobacco, manufacturing agents . . . even the paper the cigarettes are wrapped in.

By itself, nicotine is known to be a stimulant with some relaxant properties, and is a component of all plants in the nightshade family, including tomato and eggplant. It has never been conclusively shown to cause cancer.

  1. Vapor smoking is dangerous because we don’t know what’s in the vapor

The above statement is patently false. Since vapor smoking first hit the North American market in 2006, electronic cigarette companies have been more than forthcoming about the ingredients inhaled while vaping.

At Green Smoke®, our vapor consists of propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin and flavoring agents. You can learn more about these ingredients here.
